Women’s Resource Center (WRC) recognizes the needs of women students, staff, and faculty at Michigan State University through a lens of social justice. A social justice lens provides the framework through which to see and understand the intersecting aspects of identity that encompass each one of us as individuals and as members of different communities.
Gender is not a monolithic defining characteristic. Rather, WRC strives to always consider the intersections of gender and gender identity along with racial identity, sexual identity, class status, ability/disability, age, and religion.
All aspects of identity are connected to more or less privilege. A commitment to social justice means understanding how both privilege and oppression function as the means necessary to maintain structural inequalities.
Further, a commitment to social justice means that WRC actively engages in efforts intended to bring about the social change necessary to end inequalities based on gender, race, sexual identity, class, ability/disability, age, and religion.
